Another week, another wha-?!, another walk from the bedroom to the kitchen to the home office. But don’t despair, dear reader, for another Friday Live is coming your way!
You have likely noticed that your social media feed is filled with two very different approaches to navigating this most curious of times. The first bouncily tells us to Write a novel! Begin an exercise regimen! Learn a new language! And the other soberly suggests there has never been a better time to wallow, baby, wallow. I like to think of these as, respectively, the Tigger Pandemic Performance Plan and the Eeyore Quarantine Quandary, brought to you by way of the Five Hundred Acre Woods of Social Distance.
While Tigger has oodles of zest and Eeyore easily frets, here at Pulp Literature, we are following the middle way, taking our guidance from the thoughtful, poetic, and sweetness-seeking Winnie-the-Pooh:
“Let’s go and see everybody,” said Pooh. “Because when you have been walking in the wind for miles, and you suddenly go into somebody’s house, and he says, ‘Hallo, Pooh, you’re just in time for a little smackerel of something,’ and you are, then it’s what I call a friendly day.”*
Every week on our Friday Live Readings, our authors invite you into their homes for a smackerel of literary sweetness, their words a balm during this blustery season. And after all, a good story really is the best kind of honey.
Wishing you the friendliest of days.
