Only Two Weeks Left to Enter the 2023 Hummingbird Flash Fiction Prize

Enter Today!

With just two weeks left to enter, the 2023 Hummingbird Flash Fiction Prize is our final flash-fiction contest of the year.

New to flash fiction? Well, like the zippy hummingbird, flash stories are nifty and nimble. Often told in under one thousand words, they offer a lot of punch in the smallest of literary packages. Our contest judge, the master of flash himself, Bob Thurber is renowned for his fifty-word stories!

… and publication in Pulp Literature Issue 41, Winter 2024! How’s that for flashtastic?

We are delighted to welcome back Bob Thurber, presiding once more in the judge’s seat. And for inspiration, here’s a look at the opening paragraph from ‘Not What You Think’ by Alan Sincic, winner of last year’s contest:

“This book is not what you think it is. It does not begin with you sitting in the hollow of a tree, eating crackers and scratching your elbow as you look out across the forest in the morning. Ignore that picture over there. That was a mistake.”
