The Casting Call Is Murder

Vancouver schoolmarm Frankie Ray runs away to Silver Screen Hollywood to test her conviction that an actress who lacks glamour — but has talent and an enterprising attitude — can make it in the movies. But when a womanizing matinee idol turns up dead on her sofa, Frankie’s career hopes shatter. She’ll need all her acting chops to sleuth out the murderer and clear her name.

What Readers Are Saying About ‘The Extra’:

“Frankie’s debut is both exciting and fascinating. The crime mystery aspect is equally intriguing. Virtually everything about it reflects the Hollywood of the era. … It couldn’t happen anywhere else. It’s like entering a time machine. There’s a heck of a lot to admire in this ongoing saga. Thoroughly entertaining.” — R. Graeme Cameron, Amazing Stories

“The Extra grabs you from page one and immerses you in 1934: from the quiet streets of Vancouver, to the glamour, intrigue — and murder — of silver screen Hollywood. In turns witty, heartwrenching, and heart stopping, Mel Anastasiou’s clever prose and carefully researched detail picks you up and pulls you in. You can’t help root for Frankie Ray, the wannabe extra and reluctant sleuth, and when you turn the last page you can’t wait for another Monument Studios Mystery. A fabulous start to an incredibly promising series!” — Venus
