Announcing the Winners of the 2020 Raven Short Story Contest!

Rare and Radiant

The literary world is a treasure trove of words about birds. And for this, our final contest of the year, Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’, with its haunting refrain Nevermore, perches near.

But unlike the narrator of the poem, who is suffering from the loss of his one true love, we at Pulp Lit are ready to celebrate!

With gratitude to our esteemed and keen-eyed judge Matthew Hughes*, here now are the winners of Pulp Literature‘s 2020 Raven Short Story Contest:

First Place:  Nancy Ludmerer for ‘Good Intentions’

Matthew had this to say about the winning entry: The prose is strong and so is the narrative tension.

Honourable Mention:  Erin MacNair for ‘It Can Be Done with Words’

Mathew praised this story for its imaginative concept.

Editors’ Choice:  Sarina Bosco for ‘Come Back Around’

We editors refuse to settle for just one literary love, and couldn’t resist the siren song of ‘Come Back Around’. With stunning prose and chilling imagery this story captivated us with its haunting call.

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all submitting authors for sharing your words and supporting Pulp Literature!

The winner will appear in Issue 30, Spring 2021.

And unlike Poe’s raven, we believe in the promise of Forevermore. Which is really just a fancy way of saying Keep writing! And so, we are delighted to announce that The Bumblebee Flash Fiction Contest is opening 1 January 2021.

We can’t wait to see what comes buzzing across our desks!

*Further Congratulations

We would would be remiss in failing to mention that our judge himself is a newly crowned winner.  On Friday he became the first ever Canadian to win the Endeavour Award for his novel What the Wind Brings, which we are extremely chuffed to have published.
