Good Tidings We Bring
No, this post is not a seven-months-too-soon yule cheer. But it is our chance to celebrate the shortlisted poets for the 2021 Magpie Award for Poetry!
According to lore, the number of magpies you see can indicate either bad luck or good. And so, with a tiding of magpies, you get to hedge your bets and claim two or more where one might be. Glad tidings, indeed!
Listed alphabetically by first name, our terrific tiding of ten magpies, the shortlisted poets:
Aldona Dziedziejko
Cara Waterfall
Claire Wilcox
David D Barrick
Frances Boyle
Jude Neale
Justina Elias
Pattie Palmer-Baker
Susan C Peters
Trace Wilson
Final judge Renée Sarojini Saklikar is hard at work winnowing the list to the final three. Stay tuned for the announcement of the winner and runners-up, coming soon!
Congratulations to the shortlisted poets, and many thanks to our first judges, Pulp’s poetry editors Emily Osborne and Daniel Cowper.
Thank you to all submitting poets for sharing your work and supporting Pulp Literature!
