The Annual Muse Retreat 2018
Saturday 6 January 2018
10:00 am – 6:00 pm (and later)
Bowen Island BC
This year our annual Muse retreat is shorter but sweeter. We will convene for Saturday January 6th at Mel’s beautiful Bowen Island home to write, and edit, and enjoy good food and good company.
Since we don’t need to charge you for accommodation, the price is far easier on the pocketbook this year. A mere $229 gets you six hours of workshops plus a guided walk in the woods. And we invite you to join us as our guests at our Literary Lunch and traditional Groaning Board Dinner, on the house! For January 6th, the theme is Ferrante, with an Italian Creativity Luncheon and a Mediterranean Meze Feast in the evening.
9:30 am – Pick up from Snug Cove ferry terminal (9:00 am ferry from Horsehoe Bay)
10:00 am – Tea and introductions. Identifying goals for the day for each writer.
11:00 am – The Hour Stories with Jennifer Landels. In this two-hour workshop of writing and reader-response you will generate approximately 1000 words of either a new story or a section of your work-in-progress using the The Hour Stories created by Dale Adams Segal.
1:00 pm – Lunch. We invite you to join the editors for our Italian Creativity Luncheon, free of charge. You are also welcome to bring your own food.
2:00 pm – Writing the Killer First Page. In this workshop with acquistions editor Mel Anastasiou you will learn techniques for crafting a first page that will capture readers (and agents and editors) hook, line, and sinker, and then apply those skills to your manuscript.
3:00 pm – Walk in the woods or free writing time. A chance to refresh the lungs and mind with a guided walk, or an opportunity to get the words that are bubbling out of your head down on paper.
4:00 pm – The Hour Stories with Susan Pieters. A second writing and reader-response session.
6:00 pm – The Groaning Board Banquet. The editors invite you to join our Mediterranean Meze Feast to finish off the day, followed by a ride to the ferry terminal.
Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today. No money needed now — we will send out invoices at the end of the month.
We look forward to writing with you!
